Energy Tip of the Week14: Green Computing

  • Set your computer to sleep or hibernate mode instead of using a screen saver, and dim the brightness on your screen.
  • Turn off your monitor if you won’t be using it for 20 minutes or more, and your CPU if you won’t be using it for at least 2 hours.
  • Utilize the energy-saving mode that is available on most modern computers.
  • When purchasing new equipment, consider a laptop, which can use up to 90% less electricity than a desktop unit. Look for Energy Star rated equipment.
